Two missionaries, Frs. Landry and Romao, were brutally murdered. This was after unknown persons apparently gained access into the priests’ residence and conducted a robbery as well as torturing the priests with acid (battery-water). Both priests died after a number of attempts to stabilize them in hospital were unsuccessful. Their funeral will be held this week in Maputo. The persecution of missionaries who work with the poor seems to be a new weapon of the enemies of the Catholic Church in the country. Both priests were missionaries of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and worked in the Province of Sofala. The Church mourns the death of these zealous missionaries and continues to pray for their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed.
